YOUNG performer Christina Newman always dreamed of running away to the circus and has now landed a big top role in Warwickshire. The 20-year-old has been put in charge of the circus training programme at Playbox Theatre in the Dream Factory in Warwick. She joined the theatre as an 11-year-old and has appeared in many productions, including The Witches, Winnie the Pooh, Secret Heart and recently the Princess of Mars, which she helped to choreograph. The former pupil of Trinity School says: "This is my dream job. I have always loved the theatre and particularly the circus. "To be given the opportunity to take charge of the circus programme at Playbox is chance in a lifetime for me." Christina has just completed a summer holiday project called The Greatest Show on Earth and will now be teaching juggling, balance, acrobatics, trapeze, aerial hoops, clowning and movement to youngsters. Christina, who is also continuing her own advanced training, says: "I want to look at circus from a slightly different angle, using inspiration from music, images, dreams, thoughts and the world that is all around us to form the basis of our circus creations. The standard of work that this group of young performers can create is astounding and the levels of skill are sky rocketing." * Phone 01926 419555 for details of circus training classes. |
